About this skillset
This following eight point skillset consists of both single and two handed strikes as well as transitions and checking.
It is aggressive and can be utilised easily with a suitable walking stick, physically similar object or, in part, with a flashlight.
This was a key concern – being unable in the UK to have any legal carrying of batons (collapsible etc) for self defence, sets need to be realistic in terms of the fact that you will not have a 28” purpose made stick with you! So the movements are limited to reflect that.
This is not an exhaustive study of this area but rather a quick and easy way for students to learn effective and simple ideas that will work straight away and to open their minds to the defensive possibilities open to them. Nothing here is new, it's just good meat and potatoes “how to use a stick to defend yourself”.
Nothing fancy, nothing artful but dependable if mastered and practiced.
Here is the skillset as a list and I will add notes after to explain key points.
It is presumed that the trainee is right handed – left handed folks just need to mirror what is written here.
