James LaFond review
A big thank you to U.S. self defence author James Lafond for his ongoing support and for featuring his long form review of my second book, “Self defence: Volume 2” over on his website:
“This is simply the best format I could imagine for doing this type of writing, something I never stumbled upon writing in the field for 20 years. Jeth’s approach is much more positive and less dark than mine was, and recognizes a more decent approach to life than my “live and let die,” philosophy.
Jethro has the most valuable series of self-defence publishing on going and is a far more sensible writer than Geoff Thompson, his fellow Brit, whose work was all about volunteering for violence as a door man and then sucker punching drunks. Thompson came up with some useful doctrines, like “The Fence.” But the time for true survival advice for people who want to be left alone and do not have an in with the cops, is here, and Jethro provides it with a striking clarity.

Force Necessary - Tuesday 27_9_22
Good to see several new faces returning this week.
Please also see this supporter article for more background ideas to add to the FN material that we covered at the start of this workshop:
Preparation
- looking at generic ideas of striking and also falling and getting to your feet as an instinctive response.
Controlling space
We revisited the control of space work from last week and used an even slower pace to zero in on specific aspects of this. Refer to the Step off series article (above) for the baseline beginning of these ideas for home practice.
After footwork, the hands are added to deal with incoming striking, grabbing, stabbing threats.
