325 - Aide-mémoire: Nov '22 week one
Content and notes from last night's Force Necessary workshop
Tuesday 01_11_22 / FN beginner’s class
Physical preparation and partner drills:
Safer ways of falling
Safer ways of standing
Breathing / considerations of environment
BPP:
practice and student development. This is an important exercise within the FN course which I’ve mentioned many times and is used for developing specific abilities in students. We looked at the useful aspects, breaking down the constituent parts and building performance from the ground up to give the trainees a thorough understanding of what they are trying to achieve and how they can use it themselves in home training.
Padwork:
The level one thrusting eye strike is performed against a momentarily available target while controlling space against an encroaching attacker.
Knife defence:
Understanding the basics of the knife.
How the way it is held affects how it is used.
Types of knives and how that may effect use.
Learning the basic clock moves. Slashes from 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock
Teaching points, footwork, optimal defence.
Body movement for ambush:
How to dodge and evade the basic knife slashes from the perspective of an unexpected assault - this is VERY different from just using adapted sport methods of footwork.
I no longer watch ewetube martial videos for a variety of reasons. I am not always successful at this endeavour and occasionally fall for a link I get sent etc. So…
This section included a mini rant about one particularly well known martial ewetuber who I watched recently spout utter bollocks as part of a knife defence tutorial on this subject. Apologies to all who attended…
Back to our normal programming:
Experiencing intent and commitment from the attacker and how that effects body movement and options.
Reading the movement of the knife.
Using this to deliver diminishing strikes while evading and attempting to keep distance.
Why this is not always possible.
BPP:
While holding sabre and reverse grip knives.
Knife counter knife as a platform for learning more about knife usage and potential rather than “duelling”.
Performing from standing to kneeling and standing.
Finish:
Return to continuous unarmed defence versus knife slashes.
