A brief Aide - memoire this week as I’m working on a lot of other material presently that I’ll be posting here.
Good to be back with the workshops restarting last week. Here’s a quick run down of the general points covered.

Wednesday 18_1_23 Private training
Groundwork
Continuing from last night’s work in looking at fighting from the floor with an emphasis on fighting to get off the ground(!)
This is going to be a large subject area now for the start of the year going forward and will also be the subject of a supporter article series posted here on the Journal.
Bareknuckle work
Understanding and defining the realistic use of closed hand striking for survival fighting rather than a sports approach.
Thorough drilling of the basic 6 strikes as well as understanding the advantages and limitations of each.
Sparring (Multiple rounds throughout)
Working on creative use of closed hand strikes
Defence
Countering
Continuous pressure rounds.
High workload
Building immediate, instinctive countering
Maintaining form and quality as conditioning is tested.
Scenario work
Takedowns
Controlling the aggressor on the ground
Striking
Takedowns from a counter dominant position
I’m liking how the immediate countering is removing that extra beat. It’s still turn-taking, but not having “your turn, pause, my turn, pause” makes a lot of sense.
