“You can either paint yourself a f*cking masterpiece or you can paint yourself a (expletive) picture. If you want to paint a f*cking masterpiece, get good at everything.” - Jason Knight (T.U.F. 31)
But, for the rest of us average folks…
“Not everyone can paint. If you want a (expletive) picture, at least have some paint and a brush.” - Jeth (Just some bloke)
Tuesday 18_7_23 (Open training)
Thanks to tonight’s group - a lot of of solid work, effort and much deserved progress.
Congratulations to “I” on his recent promotion to blue belt in Judo (six years of work at a national and international level club) and good luck from all of us here in the forthcoming tournaments.
Next week is the last workshop before we close for “Low Season”.
We accept cash on the door and will continue to do so.

Receiving kicks
How to use deception
Variations of these two basic kicks for maximum effect and also awareness of possible counters…
For elite fighters, these types of fractures can occur as a result of smaller fractures going unnoticed which leads to catastrophic damage to the tibia and /or fibula when it gets countered with a knee such as the example above.
For the average person it could also be from simply lacking the bone conditioning to receive this kind of counter and fight on - it REALLY hurts.
Or simply from not realising that someone can counter the kick in this way due to a lack of knowledge and/or training.
Striking
Applying the open hand set from the beginning of the workshop
How relative position changes the attack - this is a simple but important point to understand and unlocks a lot of stuff.
Things are no longer isolated, individual ideas which become unreliable in crisis due to confusion. Rather, they become simpler and clearer to see, allowing the trainee to adapt on the fly in chaos and still get towards their goal.
Grappling
Closing this striking set to grappling - Force Necessary would define this as transitioning between Stop One and Stop Five.
If you find yourself here, hit them and keep doing it!
The last thing you want to do here is muck about with clever wrestling and be overpowered or caught out - assume they will be better than you (whatever that subjectively means) and prepare for it!
Immediate transition to striking
Different options and the adaptions you need to pull them off more safely
Trapping and controlling to enable you to hit them - A LOT!
The two key positions from here to enable further diminishment
Using the kicks from earlier in the workshop now along with several intuitive and simple variations
How takedowns work and and an easily achievable one that is set up and ready to go.
How to set up the tactic with space control for a safer finish.
