Weapon is already in play

The standing individual is delivering blows to a downed male with no attempt to control the free knife arm.

While focused on punching, his legs are a vulnerable target as they are so static and also will be slow to respond to attacks due to weight bearing.

If the downed individual had the knife initially for intimidation (I don’t know) he’s now very likely going to use it to try and stop the severity of the beating that he is receiving - “Use your knife to save your life”? This is perhaps supported by the knife guy fleeing as soon as the punching stops, he doesn’t continue to finish the wounded male.

The knife is a contact weapon and merely needs to “touch” to cause damage, this is especially true of sharp knives that can inflict catastrophic damage to tissue with little pressure. Indeed in the struggle the person may even cause their own injury by pressing the flesh onto the blade and moving forcefully in the chaos.

The knife must be isolated and controlled!

This video is an example of an aggressive fighting mindset that completely omits the reality of knives and pays the price. And I should also say that as I needed a reasonably short title for this post, coupled with the low self control that sees you prone to rolling in the gutter fighting people, don’t be surprised if things don’t go your way.

This ain’t the octagon, cage or mats - unless avoidance coupled with knife awareness and planning are constant central themes within your self defence training (along with self reflection and behaviour modification) then you are wide open to disaster.
