Showing the knife
Two videos that were sent in and interestingly showed almost the same thing.
Showing vs brandishing
To show a knife (or other weapon) simply means that you allow another person to know that you either have the knife on your person or that you have it in your hand and it then is placed in a ready position or it returns to a covert holding position so that only the people involved in the problem know of it’s presence.
showing that you have a knife on your belt under a jacket
drawing a knife and then holding it at the ready for possible use
drawing a knife visibly and then placing it behind your leg or under your folded arms away from general view.
To brandish a knife or weapon means to be gesturing possibly wildly with the . An example would be a crazed guy waiving a long knife around in public.
Shows don’t stab
This is a saying and while it has it’s logic, it cannot be relied on with your life. People may want to scare you with the blade and then bully/rob /rape / etc without necessarily stabbing. But this relies on the idea that the knife is being used for visual intimidation only, for example, and this is clearly not a reliable way to assess a situation.
Goading
In some situations it can be identical in ways to goading or wolfing, where you are pushed to act in some way so that the individual then has perceived justification to harm you. If they still dare to defy you, you can punish them.
“People are more polite in places where everyone carries a weapon”
You’ll hear in places like the US, where pro weapon carry people will say that many times the presence of a defensive weapon stops a criminal act from taking place.
This can often be true, but how many of these “Non - starters” or avoided situations actually get recorded? Probably a great many are not, in fairness.
It’s also not just the presence of the weapon that counts but the reading by a criminal of your willingness to use it and the two are completely different things. Which leads to:
For every successful weapon display and avoided threat, there are also situations that were directly escalated still further because of the challenge factor involved in presenting a weapon and then bluffs being called or that the weapon holder simply didn’t emanate intent to use.
This way opens things up to the not uncommon reaction of “What ya gonna do stab me?” and that’s a whole new problem for you.
The small UK town where we live, sleepy, idyllic, safe (at least it seems to the more affluent members of it), I spoke to a shopkeeper that watched a drunk woman call the bluff of an armed response unit in the centre of town - “What are ya gonna do, shoot me?” she screamed at them when the violent couple argument she was embroiled in was interrupted. It’s almost that predictable of a response.
Knife shown over “Dis” #1:
In this first example, a male is walking through and showing disrespect for the individual doing the so important, social media interview.
Rude yes, but is it knife rude?
This is going to be a definite problem as the male is around other peers as well as on camera and so will be unable allow to be seen to tolerate the transgression.
Whatever.
The difference is that this will be met with an immediate withdrawing and showing of a knife from the pocket to reinforce the “gravity” of the situation.
Neither of these ‘roid blimps seem to be able to control themselves, as rather than feigning an apology and splitting, “Chill Dawg” just plows in with more attempts at high pitched foot in mouth/ ghetto talk BS and just makes it worse.
A common insecurity factor is perceiving that you are not being treated as important (as you think you are) and rather than risk loss of face, be willing to escalate to threatening lethal force to restore image.
For some well meaning types it’s difficult to digest that you can encounter alien value systems - this won’t be a row or a slap, to some this won’t be close to even until things degenerate to possible murder or life changing injury.
Knife shown for “Dis” #2:
Second video, the guy should have left as he’s putting money down that the pink haired psycho isn’t just going to go for it anyway for being “dissed”.
This is literally two mental infants willing to go nuclear over a bus seat.
At 0.43, the serrated knife comes out and is shown to reinforce what will happen next if she is further argued with.
And numbskull next to her, just sits there! What’s going to happen if her stop comes first? Will he not move again?
Get up and move away! Feign an apology or make out that your stop has just arrived. The knife is literally out and being shown to you by someone who is unlikely to register highly on a verbal reasoning quiz.
Life is short. Even shorter for some.
Thanks for the videos. J
