In memory: Mихаил
It’s difficult sometimes to learn to refer to certain special people from our lives in the past tense and I’m sad to add this man to a lengthening personal list that I carry from this year.
One thought from the times that I trained with him that I’ll share here, I have a happy memory of sitting on my own at training during a break and Mikhail noticing this and coming over and sharing a shot with me from a bottle of vodka concealed in a paper bag, with a wink and smile, which helped overwrite any memories of being struck by him during training, which for those that know what I’m talking about was not something you forgot.
Kind, generous and with a punch that would “touch your soul” is how I’ll remember him.
One piece of advice among several he gave me in regard to training was to “be a good person and everything else will follow” and I’ve attempted to follow that and will do so moving forward and pass it to you reading this.

Topic:
Contact! Moments in a fight when rather than seeking to get away from the aggressor in any way possible, we must rather do the complete opposite and close distance as much as possible, even remaining in constant contact.
The material from the grappling involving knives (see below) expanded upon this idea.
We looked at examples of this throughout the workshop and as always, trainees are encouraged to look for this idea themselves throughout training.
