Tuesday 4_7_23 (Open training)
Reminder of reading the “Autonomous combative excellence” article and focusing on self honesty and keeping each other safe as the training gets tougher.
Unarmed skills
Moving on the combat surface
Integrating strikes and kicks into movement
Kicking
How hooking kicks work
High percentage hook kick from the rear leg
A common mistake that makes this kick a greater risk to the person that throws it than the recipient!
Moving and kicking
Realistic use of this kick in a fight for your life
Realistic countering of this kick - there are two REALLY unpopular counters and this is one of them.
Integrating kicking into hand strike combinations
Dealing with punches and kicks in combination
The following are examples for workshop trainees to check out. These do not mirror exactly the way that I would recommend for your safety but they are good for understanding delivery and the potential effects.
Anti - knife crime training
Understanding when a situation is going south and what to do
Exploiting key moments for escape
Why some commonly shown examples of knife carry and defence are absolute bullshit
There are many different “knife situations”, here we explore some very real but seldom covered aspects of how and why people get stabbed.
Drills based specifically on these ideas to expand skills from the basic level.
Trained Tactics (USA)
I like to pass along links and ideas from other like minded trainers and individuals that I’ve come into contact with over the years and support their work.
Which, by the way, is an absolute “NO NO” so I’ve found in the “self defence scene” where back biting and intellectual theft are sadly the norm.
Cool things happen when you step outside of such behaviour, focus on your own work and connect with a better class of human beings.
One such person that I’ve been in contact with is someone who’s supported my work and has appeared on the Journal in the past.
Here’s a quote from our friend, US trainer Terrence Mitchell of Trained Tactics:
“Personally, I can’t take advice from someone who hasn’t fought before.
I can’t take advice from someone who thinks training mediocre or like it isn’t their responsibility matters.
I won’t listen to anyone who has a cheap mindset or is lazy/delusional.
This world is crazy and life is valuable.
This is free advice.
Be realistic and effective in your training, you don’t need fancy gear, or trendy stuff. You don’t even need a firearm or knife, but you should use situational awareness.
And if you have the time learn how to defend yourself, even for your mental, emotional and spiritual needs. You do need to train as if your habits and skillset will save you if you ever need them to.
Fights happen everyday, at work, on the road, with family and definitely with yourself. Not always physical.
Are you winning or losing.
Now that you know train accordingly.
Be blessed and be a blessing to others.”
