I’ve had a really busy few weeks of workshops and planning culminating in the knife defence event in East Dulwich, London in partnership with Lisa Pearson ( aka: DJ Sweet Li) who runs the “Let the Youth Live” anti-knife crime campaign there.
This has been a very meaningful project for me as it’s where I used to live and the chance to reconnect with the place and for Lisa and I to create a positive event there for the community was really rewarding.
Thanks to those of you who either traveled to attend (some from quite far away) or sent donations privately or on the donation page - it looks like the funds you raised will cover the costs of several bleed kits which will possibly help to save lives in that community and also we’re hoping, a bleed control training course for up to 20 people.
The kits have now been ordered and when they get installed in the East Dulwich community, I’ll post the pictures here.

Over the course of a couple of hours, I focused on as many of the who, what, when, where, hows, and whys of common UK stabbing situations as possible, with the group also getting a hard-core crash course in physical basics in the form of tactics and scenarios that they can then filter out to other people that they know and train independently, especially young relatives and friends.
We had a good cross-section of people in the group: all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels (martial arts and complete beginners) and also several members of families who trained together, something I am very much an advocate of.
It’s been educational to talk to those locals who attended and to hear firsthand what is going on there (gangs, gunfights, car wrecks, stabbings, and more), the underreporting of the problem in the media, and the political point scoring despite lack of meaningful action by local authorities.
Many thanks to Lisa, her family, and all those I trained with at the venue, for their hospitality - it was great to meet you all.
We had good feedback from the group about the material and Lisa and I hope to run another event as soon as we can.
