On “matching intensity”
The following section is a long quote transcribed from a lecture given by a highly successful MMA fighter while coaching a group of younger fighters.
Mixed with some dark humour is a really solid lecture point on mindset and the realities of dealing with a more aggressive and bullying opponent.
I wanted to share these coaching ideas with you first and then consider some themes for our context, one far from the sporting environment, survival fighting as a last resort to protect longevity, autonomy and honour(*1) against the violent imposing of someone else’s will upon us.
I’ll then finish with some exercises to apply to your own solo training regimen.
Contents:
Lecture transcript
sports context
survival fighting context
bullying
psychological warfare
legalities: Reasonable force
exercises for solo training
(*1 - Please refer to my book “Self defence Volume 2” (Click for Amazon) for a print only essay regarding these three important themes and the ramifications they have for the very concept of individual self defence.)
