Movement:
Find the drills used and more in this article:
Striking:
Creating synergy to enable movement and striking.
Here we are using two striking patterns that utilise rear and lead hands when palm striking in different patterns which are alternated. Students are learning to be mobile and able to deliver continuous strikes with both hands.
Posture and power transfer
Conditioning practice: building endurance to keep striking.
Practicing aggression
Surviving knife attacks
Here we are learning to deal with the high percentage stab pattern from Knife set two, complete instructions can be found in the student book “Self defence volume one”(Click for Amazon).
Some of the ideas looked at:
Experiencing and dealing with a determined attacker who charges you
From first contact, the tactics that are most likely to work
Striking the aggressor at the first available moment
The strike you planned to use and the one you actually have time for - these can be two completely different things - why you need a range of responses for chaos rather than a set pattern that you try and get the world to conform to.
How and why you must control their arm immediately - failure to do this may well cost you your life.
Grappling:
A very common situation of both parties in a fight trying to control each others arms to stop punching and gain an upper hand
Understanding arm position
How to move past this problem area
Seizing control
Dealing with head butts
Knee strikes from here
A Russian style tactic that shuts down a high percentage Muay Thai counter to your knee strikes - and believe me, you want this “counter to the counter” as the Thai counter is AWFUL to receive.
This grappling problem will continue and be expanded upon in next week’s workshop.
