As well as the usual output here on the Journal, I’ve been pretty busy of late, with several other writing related projects.
For readers, this may beg the question: “So where is it? Can I read it?” - not to speak for you of course, and not to presume it’s a not a case of “Must I read it?”
New Low Price Self Defence Books
Firstly, the four print books I’ve released so far, are now available at a much lower price both at Amazon US and UK - so if you haven’t checked those out yet, now’s a good time.
Amazon UK (But not US which is fine) appears to be refusing to allow a further price drop for “Self defence: Volume one” and keeps putting an extra 80p on it for some reason, despite multiple attempts by myself to bring that price down. They also suppressed searches for my books too.
For readers here, I’d recommend Volume two (a collection of articles) and the Blunt Weapon book (No articles but rather training formats and legal outlines for UK students) as both of those have much print only content available only in those books and not found in this journal.

New book project / free stuff!
Through my editing work with James, we have regular (and hugely entertaining) Skype calls that cover everything from self defence training, coaching, and personal life stories to James’ encyclopaedic knowledge of history and more. Oh, and some occasional editing discussion thrown in for good measure!

He’d emailed me last year and asked if I would help him with the writing of a novel, which was really a great honour as I’ve been a big fan of his writing for many years now. I found myself saying the words “Yeah, sure” but was unsure of what direction this would take.
He later got back to me with the premise for a science fiction story based very loosely on a pretty legendary martial arts instructor from the US, someone whom, both myself and James rate as pretty much the best martial arts guru on the planet…
Hint: When the Gracies first came to the US, he was their bodyguard!
What sold it to me completely was that it would be a kind of “Dirty Dozen” type pulp adventure based on historical characters - imagine one of those classic early-seventies sci-fi adventure novels with a combative twist!
James wrote the first three chapters with me taking over to write the fight scenes and we’re now about twelve chapters in, with each of the parts now running up to just under four thousand words and eighteen pages a piece.
It’s been a really fascinating process of writing, especially when considering combat between real life historical characters, all of whom are affected by factors such as ageing, different skills, weapons, life experience , personalities , not to mention finding themselves in rigged fights on an alien planet - Yes even in space, the system’s stacked against you !
All of the battles in the book are dictated by a combination of character attributes and cruel chance in order to avoid any favouritism by the two authors.
This book will never be for sale, but rather, each of the chapters will be posted free every week on James’ site, with the concluding parts being available for readers here on the One In One Journal.
